An Amber Alert issued Friday November 16, 2012, led to the arrest of a local man in the Town of Gardiner.
Town of Newburgh police were made aware of a domestic incident involving 27 year old Frederick McCluskey which lead police to fear for the welfare of the man’s 4 year old son.
When police arrived at the boy’s daycare center just after 9:00 AM Firday morning, they learned that McCluskey had just fled the center with his son. Police tried to stop the vehicle but with the safety of the child at hand, did not. At that time, Marlborough officers spotted McCloskey driving north on Route 9W and tried to stop him, but called off a chase because of concern for the child.
The failed attempt to stop McCluskey, lead to the Amber Alert.
McCluskey made contact with a New York State Police negotioator from friend’s house in the Town of Gardiner where he tried to flee the scene. After a brief foot chase, McCluskey was taken into custody and the child was found unharmed inside the house.
McCluskey was charged with felony reckless endangerment as well as misdemeanors or endangering the welfare of a child and reckless driving. Other charges are pending.
Marlborough Police were assisted by Town of Newburgh Police, FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, State Police, State Police BCI, State Police Aviation Unit and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
