On May 6, 2013, the New York State Police, Niverville Fire Department and Valatie Rescue Squad partnered to present a simulated fatal DWI crash for prom season awareness.

The purpose for the presentation was to deter high school students from drinking and/or using drugs during prom season.

The mock crash included a one vehicle accident.

Students, who are also explorer members of the Valatie Rescue Squad, were extricated by members of the Niverville Fire Department.

One “occupant” of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Other “victims” were treated at the scene and transported to another part of campus by the Valatie Rescue Squad.

The “driver”, who appeared intoxicated and was slightly injured, was run through standard field sobriety testing by the New York State Police and a mock arrest took place in front of students.

The presentation was hosted by the Ichabod Crane Central School District.
