Saturday morning, Orange County participated in a regional multi-jurisdiction full scale, search and rescue exercise in the Cornwall Area designed to test plans and procedures between numerous emergency response agencies to a potential incident on the Hudson River, an important national waterway.  This full scale exercise is the first of its kind in the Mid-Hudson Valley.

“I would like to personally thank all of the responders, volunteers from the community, and the many organizations and agencies who participated in this exercise,” said Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana.  “You gave up valuable time during a weekend in order to keep the public safe, which is commendable.”

There are dozens of calls for assistance on the Hudson River year round, in all-weather condition, day and night.  Emergency Responders from all levels of government stand by ready to render assistance in this hazardous environment.  Effective communications is a regular benchmark that is tested during emergency response exercises
