Early Friday Morning Raid Leads Felony Drug Charges in City of Newburgh

On November 30, 2012 at 5:05 AM the City of Newburgh Police Narcotics Unit, Detective Division and SWAT Team conducted a “no knock” search warrant at 77 Chambers St resulting in four arrests and the seizure of heroin, crack cocaine and cash.

The investigation was lead by the City of Newburgh Police Narcotics Unit under case officer Joseph Burns and it involved the distribution of heroin from the basement apartment. The investigation uncovered information leading to the issuance of a search warrant for the entire building, which included the basement, first floor, second floor and third floor. The main persons of interest in the investigation were the second floor residents identified as Dwayne Wallace and Rebecca Haschak.

The Narcotics Unit recovered 744 packaged envelopes of heroin, 6.5 grams of unpackaged heroin, 6.8 grams or crack cocaine, drug packaging materials and $18,710 in cash.

Dwayne Wallace ,48, was charged with two B Felony counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd, a D Felony count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th, a D Felony count of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 1st and an A Misdemeanor count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th. Wallace is currently on parole for an A Felony Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 2nd conviction. Held pending arraignment.

Rebecca Haschak ,29, was charged with two B Felony counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd, a D Felony count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th and an A Misdemeanor count of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 2nd. Held pending arraignment.

Raymond Staffon ,23, who resides in the basement apartment, was charged with a B Felony count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd, a D Felony count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th and an A Misdemeanor count of
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th. Held pending arraignment.

Margaret Arrotta ,44, of the Town of Newburgh was charged with an A Misdemeanor count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th. Released on her own recognizance.
