A 24 year old Dutchess County man responsible for the death of a Poughkeepsie couple on August 1, 2012 will serve time in a New York State Prison for his role in the incident.
Ryan Floryan of Poughkeepsie ran a red light at the intersection of Worrall Avenue and the Eastbound Arterial as he was trying to evade police, when he smashed into a car carrying Shawn and Patricia Wonderly and their two children. The couple was killed, their children escaped the scene with their lives.
In June of this year, Floryan plead guilty to two counts of second degree manslaughter. On Wednesday, Dutchess County Court Judge Stephen Greller sentenced him to two concurrent sentences of 6 1/2 to 13 years. Under New York State law, because both victims died during the same incident, the sentences must run at the same time.
Their two children, 9 year old Abigail and 8 year old Matthew, live in Poughkeepsie with their maternal grandmother and are cared for by both families.
