Clinical Neurologist from Yale University to Discuss Medicine, Critical Thinking from Skeptic’s Viewpoint; Lecture Sponsored by SUNY Orange Foundation
Dr. Steven Novella of Yale University, and a leader in the skeptical movement, will offer a lecture entitled “Science-Based Medicine and Critical Thinking” at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28 in Orange Hall Theatre at SUNY Orange’s Middletown campus. His appearance is the latest in the Pryluck Distinguished Lecture Series, presented by the SUNY Orange Foundation.
Novella is an academic clinical neurologist at Yale University’s School of Medicine. He is president and co-founder of the New England Skeptical Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting science and reason. He also hosts and produces “The Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe,” a weekly science podcast that deals with myths, conspiracy theories, pseudoscience and the paranormal from a scientific point of view. Novella is a well-known lecturer, author, blogger and commentator advocating the skeptical point of view.
The lecture is co-sponsored by the SUNY Orange Foundation and the College’s Cultural Affairs department. Admission is free. For more information, contact Dorothy Szefc at (845) 341-4891 or email.
Novella is the ninth lecturer to be included in the Pryluck Distinguished Lecture Series, which began in 1999. As owners of Pryluck’s Pharmacy in Middletown, Edna Pryluck and her late husband Shep came to know generations of families throughout the community. Their generous contributions to SUNY Orange symbolized their commitment to the community, and their gifts allowed the College to endow the Distinguished Lecture Series and to create a scholarship designed to benefit students demonstrating financial need and studying in SUNY Orange’s nursing program.
