Barrett announces endorsements from Senator Gillibrand and women’s organizations
Didi Barrett, candidate in the Special Election for the 103rd State Assembly district, announced that she has been endorsed by US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and leading organizations focused on women’s health issues and women’s rights, as well as groups encouraging women candidates to run for local, state and federal offices.

“As a longtime activist and advocate on behalf of girls, women and families, I appreciate the support of Senator Gillibrand and these influential organizations,” Barrett said. “I am fighting for the best interests of the middle class. I believe my perspective – as wife and mother – will help our hardworking families get the attention they deserve in Albany.”

“Didi will bring a different perspective to governing, and she has creative ideas on tax relief, job creation and other issues middle-class families care about,” said Gillibrand. “The Mid-Hudson Valley deserves a hard worker who won’t just talk, but act.”

In addition to Senator Gillibrand, Barrett’s endorsements from women’s organizations include the Dutchess Democratic Women’s Caucus, Eleanor’s Legacy, Emily’s List, NARAL Pro-Choice New York, Women’s Campaign Fund/She Should Run, Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York (PPANY), Planned Parenthood Mid-Hudson Valley Action Fund (PPMHVAF) and the PPANY Upper Hudson Chapter.
“Didi Barrett has shown a lifelong commitment to reproductive rights,” said NARAL Pro-Choice NY President Gina Asprocolas. “As we continue to fight to protect choice and promote reproductive health in Albany, we need champions like Didi who will not be afraid to stand up for all women.”

“Didi has built a reputation as a strategic thinker and an effective leader, dedicated to helping the most vulnerable in our communities grow into thriving and active citizens,” said Judith Hope, Founder of Eleanor’s Legacy. “Since 2010, New York State has slipped to 34th in the nation in terms of representation of women in elected office. At a time when women’s rights are under constant threat, it is a dangerous trend to lose the representation and participation of women in our state government.”
Barrett’s affiliations with women’s groups include founding the Dutchess Girls Collaborative, as well as serving on the board of the New York Women’s Foundation, Women’s Campaign Forum and she is a former board member of NARAL Pro-Choice New York. On Thursday, Barrett attended the International Women’s Day event on Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie.
