Deerpark Supervisor to Speak at Albany 2nd Amendment RallyFeb 11th, 2013 | By HV Insider | Category: Featured Articles
Deerpark Town Supervisor Karl A. Brabenec (R, C, I – Westbrookville) has been asked to be one of the speakers at a Gun Rights and Lobby Day Rally being held on the Capitol steps in Albany on Tuesday, February 12th. The rally is being organized by a group named “Turn Albany Upside Down” and is being held to express opposition to the recently passed NY-SAFE law, one of the strongest gun control measures in the country.
“Our constitutional rights are being infringed upon and law-abiding citizens are the only ones who will be hurt by this new law,” said Brabenec. “It was presented as an emotional, knee-jerk reaction by our Governor various state legislators. Statistics show that gun control measures do nothing to reduce crime or prevent horrible tragedies from occurring in the future.”
He added that many legislators had less than half an hour to read the 45-page bill before voting on it and that the law limits a constitutional right while it “fails to offer any meaningful solutions to gun violence.”
The Town of Deerpark was one of the first municipalities in the state to pass a resolution opposing the new law and questioning the constitutionality of it. Brabenec will be speaking about the Deerpark’s resolution and urging other municipalities around the state to pass similar resolutions.
He is scheduled to speak at 12:40 pm and will join other speakers including former GOP gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino, State Senator Greg Ball, Assemblyman Steve Katz, and Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney.
