According to family the 2 year old girl found dead in New Paltz this week was from the Dominican Republic and visiting her aunt in the area for the past few months.
The young girl’s death is being ruled a homicide after an autopsy was performed. It was determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma. Police have not released how the trauma was delivered.
The grieving parents of 2-year-old Asia Perez were on their way to New Paltz on Thursday according to a family relative.
Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright said as of Thursday evening an arrest had not been made and he declined to say if police had a suspect in the case.
The investigation, which began Wednesday, is continuing, with police from several agencies searching the area outside 332 Route 32 North where the child was found.
