COUPLE GETS MARRIED AS PART OF BALLOON FESTIVAL
At the seventh hour, on the seventh day of the seventh month, the “very lucky” Danielle Johnson and Cody Noble of Marionville, Pa., exchanged wedding vows over the Hudson River as part of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2012 Balloon Festival.
“It was breathtaking,” Johnson said from her cell phone in Poughkeepsie. “We landed practically on a rooftop, had cake and imitation champagne. Everyone was smiling and happy for us.
“It was pretty unique. Cody says I talk too much, but this left me speechless.”
When Johnson and Noble decided to elope, they contacted the Liberty Balloon Company in Groveland, N.Y. Pilot Carroll Teitsworth said he was going to be in the Hudson Valley this weekend as part of the Chamber’s annual Balloon Festival, and the couple decided to follow him to Poughkeepsie.
“Everything just fell into place,” Johnson, a 33-year-old medical coder, said. The couple just returned from a trip to Italy, which they are now calling their honeymoon. Noble, 26, is a corrections officer.
Their families don’t even know yet that they are married, but the crowd gathered at the Hudson River Rowing Association Boathouse knows, and wished them well as they lifted off at sunrise with 16 other hot-air balloons as part of a mass launch.
“This is a first for us, and we couldn’t be happier that Danielle and Cody chose Dutchess County and our balloon festival as the place to get married,” said Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Charles S. North. “We wish them many happy years together, and we hope they come back each July to Poughkeepsie to mark this great occasion.”
The new Mr. and Mrs. Noble are spending the weekend in the Hudson Valley taking in many of the region’s tourism sites included the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park.
“We couldn’t think of a more perfect way to get married,” summed up the former Danielle Johnson, now Mrs. Danielle Noble.
The Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce Balloon Festival continued Saturday evening with launches around Dutchess County, and then another mass launch wass scheduled for 6 a.m. Sunday again from the banks of the Hudson River at the Rowing Association Boathouse in Poughkeepsie.
