On June 6, 2013, just before 7:00 PM, New York State Police in Cortlandt received a 911 report of a stabbing that occurred at 95 Red Mill Road in the Town of Cortlandt.
When troopers arrived, they found 30 year old Ralph Scannapieco suffering from a stab wound to his lower back that he received after getting into an altercation with his finacee’s daughter’s 16 year old boyfriend; Daniel J. Platoni of Cortlandt Manor.
Troopers located Platoni, who had fled into a nearby wooded area and placed him into custody. He was transported to the Cortland barracks and charged with one count of 1st Degree Assault and one count of Criminal Possession Of A Weapon. He was held in the City of Peekskill lockup pending his arraignment today in the Town Of Cortlandt Justice court. Town Justice Gerald Klein remanded Platoni to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash/bond and scheduled his reappearance date in the Town of Cortlant Justice court on Monday June 10.
The victim remains hospitalized in Hudson Valley Hospital in stable condition.
At this time, it is unknown what the cause of the altercation was. The State Police investigation in continuing.
