Claudia Jacobs – A ‘Made in the Hudson Valley’ ChristmasDec 4th, 2012 | By Claudia Jacobs | Category: Lifestyle
Last December I spent an idyllic afternoon shopping in Sugarloaf, NY. This quaint artisan village offers a relaxed shopping experience for unique gift giving. Consider shopping local and giving a handmade gift.
Bliss Co-op is a creative co-operative of approximately 55 women artists from the Lower Hudson Valley and is located down Romer’s Alley in Sugarloaf. You will find a wide range of handcrafted items for the entire family. “
“We have just finished getting the store prepped for the holidays!! Display windows are done, and garland is hung. It’s looking quite festive with shelves stocked full for gift giving”, says Dana Anders, owner of Bliss Co-op.
For women they offer a selection of bath and body products from Beyond the Picket Fence plus, hand-dyed silk scarves and tops from Catmaid. They also carry a vast array of jewelry.
For men there are up-cycled liquor bottle clocks from the Glass Vineyard or a set of liquor bottle label coasters or a liquor bottle soap pump from Art Designed.
For kids they offer a menagerie of stuffed animals from Fischer Originals and tutu’s and blankets from Kat Page Designs.
Seasonal items are plentiful with items such as hand woven and decorated snowflakes from Baskets by Pat, peppermint bark soy candles from Art Designed, 3-D greeting cards from Cards by Design, boot stockings by Eliza Mae, or luxurious holiday quilts by Janet Pizzo.
If you are at a loss of what to get, any one of the artists who works a shift at Bliss, can help you find that perfect gift. Gift certificates are available.
Check out their website: www.blissco-op.com or facebook for more ideas.
Nick Zungoli Photographs is having an open house on Saturday, December 8 from 11 to 7 at Exposures Gallery in Sugarloaf.
Zungoli is delighted to share a new series of large format panoramas of the Hudson Valley. The prints are the finest he has ever created thanks to “Lightjet” technology. Actual photo paper is exposed with laser light from his digital files producing amazing sharpness and color saturation.
Photography Workshops and gift certificates are also available. For more info: www.exposures.com.
Besides shopping local, you can support local artisans. It is a delightfully merry thing to do.
