NYS Liquor Authority Suspends License of The Corner Pocket
Mayor Claims Victory for the Neighborhood
The City of Poughkeepsie was notified by the New York State Liquor Authority that the Liquor License for The Corner Pocket (136 South Avenue) has been suspended.
“I want to thank the New York State Liquor Authority for their swift action in suspending the license of The Corner Pocket. The City of Poughkeepsie often partners with the Liquor Authority to address disorderly establishments,” said Mayor John C. Tkazyik.
A shooting involving four individuals occurred at the location on June 22nd and City Police are continuing the investigation.
The Mayor went on to state, “This is a victory for the residents in the neighborhood that will now allow them peace of mind. The City will not tolerate establishments that condone, promote, or turn a blind eye to illegal activity occurring at any time. While the City has no authority to limit operating hours for licensed establishments, I will look to propose to the Common Council legislation that will better allow the City to control the negative effects associated with establishments that operate into the early morning hours.”
