Mar 6th, 2013 | By | Category: Police Briefs

The City of Newburgh Police received a robbery call where a handgun was displayed during the early morning hours of Sunday March 3rd. Responding officers learned that two Hispanic males had been placing recyclables from a party into their vehicles when another Hispanic male, who had been at the party, started assisting them and put the used bottles into his vehicle. The other two males began to question the third as to why he was putting the bottles in his own vehicle. The suspect then displayed a handgun and ordered them to put the remaining items in his vehicle. The subject then fled in a red Chevy Trail Blazer.

Officers responding to the call spotted a red Chevy Trail Blazer heading towards Federal Street and proceeded to attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop. During the pursuit, officers observed a silver object thrown from the vehicle.

The vehicle finally pulled over in the area of 8 Little Monument Street. The driver was identified as Jesus Bello Cruz, age 34 of the City of Newburgh. The investigation confirmed he was the subject who robbed the two victims.

Bello Cruz was arrested and charged with Robbery 2nd and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd.

The discarded item was determined to be a BB gun.
