In three separate incidents, the City of Newburgh Police have made 4 arrests on weapons charges in less than one week.
On December 12, 2013 at 8:00pm the City of Newburgh Police Narcotics Unit and the City of Newburgh Police SWAT Team conducted a “no knock” search warrant at 354 First St. second floor apartment. The warrant was obtained based on an investigation conducted by the narcotics unit. Located inside the apartment was a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm semiautomatic handgun and 8.4 grams of crack cocaine.
Arrested were the following;
Adrian Hutchinson (23) of New Windsor
Anthony Rodriguez (22) of 354 First St
Both were charged with felony weapon possession and felony drug possession charges.
They were held pending arraignment.
On December 11, 2013 at 12:02pm patrol officers responded to the area of South St. and Lander St. to investigate a report of shots fired. Several 380 caliber shell casings were located on the sidewalk.
Officers cleared the scene but remained in the area. Police dispatchers utilized the city street camera system to monitor activity in the area. They dispatched officers and detectives to the area of South and Lander St. after they observed a subject in possession of a handgun.
Officers and detectives converged on the group of three. Two of the subjects immediately fled on foot. Officers and detectives chased Rashon Williams (18) of the City of Newburgh into a Chambers St. residence. Prior to entering the residence he was observed throwing a loaded 25 caliber semi-automatic handgun. Officers and detectives searched the building and located him hiding in a closet of an apartment.
The apartment door had been damaged by Rashon Williams.
The apartment was occupied at the time.
The occupants did not know Rashon Williams.
Rashon Williams was charged with felony weapons possession, resisting arrest and burglary. He was held pending arraignment.
Officers located a loaded 380 caliber semi-automatic handgun at the location where the three subjects were stopped.
Police are continuing to investigate the shots fired and the identity of the subject that possessed the 380 prior to fleeing.
The third subject was interviewed at headquarters and released.
On December 10, 2013 at 5:10pm the City of Newburgh Police Neighborhood Stabilization Team stopped several subjects in the area of 111 William St.
The officers were patrolling in that area due to multiple shots fired incidents that had recently occurred. While additional Neighborhood Stabilization Team members responded to the area they observed a 15 year old City of Newburgh resident running while holding an object that was in his jacket pocket.
Officers stopped the subject in the area of William and West Parmenter St. where they discovered that he was in possession of a 25 caliber semi-automatic handgun. The juvenile was charged with felony weapon possession and released to his parents.
