On March 6, 2013 City of Newburgh Detectives arrested 21 year old City of Newburgh resident Charles Alexander for the murder of 23 year old City of Newburgh resident Justin Doctor. He was charged with Murder 2nd and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. He was held until arraignment on March 7, 2013.
Detectives have been investigating the shooting death of Justin Doctor since it occurred on October 14, 2012 at 5:00 AM outside of the Game Time Bar located at 43 Liberty Street.
During the course of the investigation detectives learned that several subjects were armed with and had fired handguns
during a dispute that occurred outside of the bar. Detectives also learned that Justin Doctor was killed during his attempts to use a handgun against another individual.
Within an hour of the homicide police responded to a shots fired call in the area of 195 First Street. City of Newburgh Police Officers and assisting Town of Newburgh Police Officers were able to recover two handguns and arrest three people for weapons possession. Detectives linked them to being present during the dispute outside of Game Time.
Lt. Cameron said, “the City of Newburgh Police and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office worked tirelessly to sort through the chaos that occurred within a few seconds outside on the street where multiple subjects were armed and shooting handguns.”
Detectives continued their investigation during the months after the incident. That investigation led to the recovery of another handgun and the arrest of two additional City of Newburgh residents for felony weapons possession.
