City of Newburgh CSEA Supports Troops Through Holiday Drive

Jan 1st, 2014 | By | Category: Community Happenings

Leaders and members of the CSEA City of Newburgh Unit are thanking their city co-workers and residents for their support of the union’s first Operation Holiday for U.S. Troops collection, calling the charitable initiative a success.

Donations of non-perishable food and personal hygiene items filled several boxes that were then taken for transport to U.S. soldiers deployed overseas. The project was such a success that organizers hope to hold a similar collection in another six month, union leaders said.

The idea for the project came from CSEA member Vickiana DeMora, who has close family member in the military who has recently served overseas. DeMora noticed that fewer collections are being held for troops serving abroad than in years past, so she approached union leaders for their support.

CSEA proudly represents nearly 100 members of the City of Newburgh work force. CSEA members work to improve the quality of life in the City of Newburgh through their public service. They dispatch emergency calls, plow city streets, pick up refuse and recyclables, operate city recreation programs, conduct youth outreach, maintain a safe and healthy water supply, enforce city codes and staff city offices.

The drive was such a success, union leaders hope to repeat the effort this summer.
