“CARFIT” EVENT SLATED FOR JUNE 16 AT GLEN ARDEN IN GOSHEN
Older Adults Can Improve Their Vehicular Comfort and Mobility Within the Community
Older adults wishing to further ensure their driving safety, as well as their general mobility within the community, are invited to take part in a CarFit event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 16 at Glen Arden in Goshen.
CarFit is an educational program developed by the American Society on Aging that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles “fit” them. Supported by the Association for the Advancement of Retired Persons (AARP), the American Automobile Association (AAA) and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), CarFit events allow a team of trained technicians to work with each participant in order to “fit” them to their vehicle for maximum safety and comfort.
Program events are designed to provide a quick but comprehensive check of how well a driver and his or her car work together. Attendees will be asked a few simple questions and complete a 12-point CarFit checklist. The entire process takes approximately 20 minutes and participants leave with a set of recommended car adjustments, as well as a helpful list of local resources, all designed to help them feel more comfortable and in better control behind the wheel of their automobile.
The local CarFit event at Glen Arden, located at 214 Harriman Drive, is sponsored by the Center for Assistive and Rehabilitative Technology (CART) at SUNY Orange, Elant and the Orange County Office for the Aging.
For more information on the CarFit program, contact the SUNY Orange CART at (845) 341-4390.
SUNY Orange is hoping to host an additional CarFit event in August at the Center for Assistive and Rehabilitative Technology on the College’s Middletown campus.
The Farmers Market will be open every Friday from 3:00pm to 7:00pm through October
