Candidate Schmitt Speaks on Redistricting

Feb 2nd, 2012 | By | Category: Political

Assembly candidate Colin Schmitt said, “After months of backroom dealings, Albany politicians released in a partisan, undemocratically developed and gerrymandered redistricting plan. While this is just the first proposal, we now know the general look of the final map for the next 10 years.  After listening to New Yorkers about their desire for economic development and reform, last May I decided that to turn Albany around we have to remove the members who are part of the problem.

While I respect the public service of Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun, it is time for her double dipping political career to come to an end.

Since May last year, I have found considerable support for this campaign while meeting thousands of New Yorkers across the Hudson Valley.  To date we’ve been blessed to have raised almost $25,000 in generous contributions, more than every other potential candidate in this race.  My plans for this election cycle are crystal clear: I will run against Nancy Calhoun in whatever makeup the final district may be. We can do better than the failed leaders of the past, and in the 2012 primary and general elections, we will.  We must believe in better.”
