More than 300 Athletes Turn out for New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce 3rd Annual New Paltz Challenge Father’s Day Half Marathon & 5K
The New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce held its 3rd Annual New Paltz Challenge Half Marathon and 5K race on Father’s Day, June 17, 2012. 308 men, women and children finished the events, which began and ended at Gilded Otter Brewing Co., New Paltz, raising funds for the Chamber’s community initiatives. Registration for the 3rd Annual Challenge more than doubled over last year’s race, in a testament to the event’s unique combination of a gorgeous course along the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail and stellar race planning by Race Director and New Paltz Challenge Committee Chair Kay Hoiby of Skydive the Ranch.
The top overall men’s Half Marathon finishers were Jesse DuBey of New York, NY (1:14:44), Ken Little of Ballston Lake, NY (1:14:50), and John Heppolette of New Paltz, NY (1:23:57). Top overall women’s Half Marathon finishers were Alexandra Niles of Montclair, NJ (1:27:18), Roxanne Wegman of Troy, NY (1:32:50), and Cassandra Gucciardo of Levittown, NY (1:35:15). The top overall men’s 5K finishers were Alfredo Mazzuca of New Paltz, NY (17:42.7), Lorenzo Mazzuca of New Paltz, NY (18:20.2), and Brendan Sutta of Wallkill, NY (18:22.2). The top overall women’s 5K finishers were Bec Wassner of New Paltz, NY (19:03.0), Emily Luker of Philadelphia, PA (21:42.7) and Jodi Brangaccio of Newburgh, NY (22:40.0). Both Jesse DuBey and Alfredo Mazzuca are repeat champions for their events.
