Bethel Woods to Open Performing Arts ConservatoryJun 17th, 2013 | By HV Insider | Category: Featured Articles
Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is opening a new performing space for children and young adults in July. Named The Conservatory at Bethel Woods, the new facility is designed to encourage arts exploration through an immersive experience of interactive participation and fun.
The Conservatory will begin programming in early July with the Summer Stages, which feature three two-week-long workshops, including: “All that Jazz” for young musicians in grades 6-8; “Broadway in Bethel,” a musical theater workshop for teens in grades 7-10; and “Youth Opera Experience,” an opera workshop for youth in grades 2-6. Scholarships are available.
“Adding the Conservatory was a natural transition for us In our continuing commitment to bring rich arts programming to the region,” said Bethel Woods Chief Executive Officer Darlene Fedun, “Following a successful introduction of performing arts workshops last spring, we found ourselves in need of additional space. This allows for a dedicated space devoted to the needs of children, young adults and our performing arts programs.”
The Conservatory building is an open and sunlit space, nestled on six acres in a semi-wooded environment, perched up high to enjoy a wonderful view of the bucolic landscape of Bethel Woods. The 4,400 square foot structure is undergoing basic renovations to transform it from a residence into an arts education and community program facility that is ADA accessible. The Conservatory will be a multi-purpose learning and rehearsal space that will include areas for music practice, classrooms, a costume shop, scenic design, as well as a kitchen and lunch area.
“We are thrilled at the support we have seen for our programs so far. Our pilot program was so well received last spring. We want to thank those individuals that have supported our efforts. We look forward to the success of these new programs,” Fedun added.
An open house will be held at a later date. For information about how to participate in Summer Stages and about Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, visit www.BethelWoodsCenter.org.
