Barricaded Poughkeepsie Man Kills Himself in Putnam MotelDec 9th, 2013 | By HV Insider | Category: Featured Articles, Lead Article
On December 7, 2013 at approximately 10:19 p.m., the State Police responded to assist the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office at the Countryside Motel, 3577 Route 9, Cold Spring, for a report of a barricaded subject armed with a firearm.
Responding members established a perimeter around the motel, evacuated other occupants of the establishment and Route 9 was closed to ensure public safety.
Throughout the evening, crisis negotiators from the Putnam County Sheriffs office and the New York State Police maintained contact with the subject in an attempt to get him to peacefully surrender himself and his weapon. Negotiations continued until Sunday at approximately 11:30 a.m. when Mark Reid, 47 years old, of Poughkeepsie, died from a self inflicted gun shot wound.
Both agencies were assisted by the State Police Special Operations Response Team and Putnam County Emergency Response Team.
The State Police are utilizing the Forensic Identification Unit to continue this investigation.
